El Salvador joins Petrocaribe
El Salvador became the 19th member country of Venezuela-led energy alliance Petrocaribe after a unanimous vote in its favor.
A statement from the Salvadoran government noted the importance of the country's inclusion, given its lack of domestic oil and gas resources.
Newly-elected president Salvador Sánchez Cerén campaigned on a proposal for the country to join the Venezuela-led energy alliance organization, which is dedicated to the supply of oil and gas to member countries at reasonable prices.
In the nine years Petrocaribe has existed, member countries' GDP has increased by 25%, a Venezuelan government release said, and per capita income has gone up by US$387.
