El Salvador receives US$60mn from IDB to improve digital government services

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) approved a US$60mn loan to improve digital government services in El Salvador.

Of the total, US$55mn will be focused on adapting data infrastructure equipment with the aim of bringing it to tier III standards and energy efficiency and accessibility.

Part of this budget will be used for the migration of government digital services, connectivity infrastructure and equipment for a network operations center (NOC) and a security center (SOC).

The program also includes an investment of US$3.5mn for the training of specialists for the government's new datacenter, and training of IT personnel and citizens in general.

The program is expected to benefit approximately 57 public institutions, 1,140 information technology workers and 10,000 public employees, IDB said in a release.

It will also train around 2,000 women in advanced digital skills and 40,000 citizens in basic digital skills.

The loan has a 25-year repayment period and a 5.5-year grace period.
