El Salvador to focus on overpass projects
After completing a 6.5km bypass for port city La Libertad, El Salvador’s government is preparing to start or continue work on a series of overpasses.
The public works and transport ministry (MOP) said on Twitter that now the administration has finished the La Libertad bypass, which is part of what President Nayib Bukele called the Road to Surf City between San Salvador and the coast, it can now move on to the other projects.
The overpasses are:
- Comalapa-Litoral highway overpass (under construction)
- Gerardo Barrios beltway (under construction)
- El Triángulo overpass (yet to start)
- Los Leones overpass (yet to start)
- 7 overpasses in San Salvador (yet to start)
- Redondel Integración overpass over the Constitución boulevard (yet to start)
- Calle al Volcán overpass over the Constitución boulevard (yet to start)
- Calle Antigua a Zacamil overpass over the Constitución boulevard (yet to start)
- Calle La Gloria overpass over the Constitución boulevard (yet to start)
- Árbol de La Paz overpass (yet to start)
- Hermano Bienvenido a Casa overpass (yet to start)
- San Juan Opico overpass (yet to start)
- Sacacoyo overpass (yet to start)
- Highway to Acajutla port overpass (being designed)
- Unicaes overpass (being designed)
- Metrocentro overpass (being designed)
Investment amounts and contractor names were not provided.
LA LIBERTAD BYPASS
The four-lane bypass, work on which started under the previous administration, will avoid crossing the urban area of La Libertad. Its cost was US$27mn.
