El Salvador to open Ilopango airport terminal next month
The new terminal being built at San Salvador’s Ilopango international airport for executive travel will be opened in December, an official said.
The new terminal will have a meeting room area for business passengers.
“It will be opened in December….[Passengers] will be able to hold business meetings in the airport,” the president of the autonomous executive commission for ports (CEPA), Federico Anliker, said in a TV interview on Monday.
The official also said that construction of the Pacific international airport to serve port city La Unión – another project handled by CEPA – is being reviewed by several banks and construction contractors, some of which have approved the project.
“The designs are about to be finished… we have had very good news from financial institutions who have greenlighted the project, it’s just an administrative matter for them so that we can start building the airport,” he said.
Meanwhile, the renovation of Acajutla port, which includes an expansion of the container terminal, will be opened on Tuesday, Anliker said. The project, construction on which started in 2022, will increase handling capacity to 235,000 containers per year and storage capacity by 36%.
