Eletrosul prepares to bid for 6 power projects

Bnamericas
Brazilian federal power company Eletrosul is considering bidding for six power generation concessions in the future power generation auction scheduled for this year, Agência Estado news service reported. The six concessions are for generation projects in the southern region of the country where the company is headquartered and where it operates. The company plans to bid for two projects with about 300MW each while the other four will have capacities of 120-150MW each, the news service reported. Four of the projects are located in the southern state of Paraná and two in Rio Grande do Sul state. Eletrosul is controlled by federal holding company Eletrobrás. It was prohibited from investing in power generation from the late 1990s through 2004 because the government's privatization program aimed to keep power generation in private hands and transmission in government hands. Since last year, the company has been studying several generation investment projects, local press reported.
