Emcali advances fiber optics coverage
Emcali, the public multi-services utility of Colombia’s Cali, will achieve its goal of covering 93% of homes with fiber by year-end.
Adding other areas where the company provides telecoms services, such as Jamundi and Yumbo, fiber coverage reaches 70%.
The company’s four-year copper replacement plan demands 100bn pesos (US$24.6mn).
In October, Emcali announced a plan to reach 200,000 homes with fiber this year. At the time, the company claimed to have more than 50,000 fiber customers.
This year, Emcali fiber has reached all localities the company serves. Coverage is expanding in neighborhoods such as Tequendama, Prados del Sur and La Buitrera, as well as in rural areas like Saladito and Kilómetro 18, city hall said in a statement.
Latest data from regulator CRC, from March 2023, shows that Emcali had a 1.1% share in the fixed market with more than 99,500 subscribers, including fiber and other technologies.
