In order to prevent and combat child gambling addiction, the National Communications Agency (ENACOM), which depends on the Office of the Chief of Staff of the Nation, has already facilitated the blocking of more than a thousand illegal online gambling websites. This was stated on Tuesday by the Secretary of Innovation, Science and Technology, Darío Genua; and the auditor of the Agency, Juan Martín Ozores, instructed by the Chief of Staff, Guillermo Francos.

“We are aware that online gambling addiction in children and adolescents is a scourge that occurs under the protection of websites that promote illegal gambling. For this reason, we are committed to working jointly with other organizations to prevent the development of these illegal platforms, and to promote initiatives that promote responsible digital citizenship, taking care of the mental health and emotional development of children,” said Genua.

“We understand the seriousness of the situation. For this reason, every time a court order arrives at the agency requesting the blocking of access to illegal betting sites, we immediately inform the country's internet service provider companies and the Chambers and Federations that group them so that they can carry it out,” said Ozores.

He added: “ENACOM plays the role of intermediary between the justice system and internet providers. So far in 2024, there have been more than a thousand cases in which the agency has acted to facilitate the blocking of clandestine betting sites.”

In this regard, Ozores expressed his willingness to collaborate to address this problem. “We met with different institutions and organizations to join the fight against this scourge. At ENACOM, we want all Argentines to be free to choose which platforms, apps and websites to access, but within a framework of legality and responsibility to safeguard the health of children and adolescents,” he concluded.
