ENDE of Bolivia and ANDE of Paraguay sign agreement to strengthen energy integration
The following is a machine translation of a Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energy release
The National Electricity Company (ENDE) of the Plurinational State of Bolivia and the National Electricity Administration (ANDE) of the Republic of Paraguay signed an inter-institutional agreement for cooperation and reciprocal assistance to strengthen energy integration between both nations.
ANDE, created in 1949 as an autonomous and decentralized entity of the Paraguayan public administration, is responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electric energy in Paraguay, and operates important hydroelectric plants such as Acaray (200 MW) and the binational Itaipu (14,000 MW) and Yacyretá (3,200 MW), the latter two in collaboration with Brazil and Argentina.
With this agreement, ENDE and ANDE will develop joint studies to evaluate the electrical interconnection between Bolivia and Paraguay, a fundamental measure to advance regional energy integration. In addition, both entities will analyze the potential for electrical exchange between the two countries, promoting the efficiency and resilience of their respective electrical systems.
The agreement also promotes mutual technical assistance and the exchange of experiences throughout the entire value chain of the electricity industry, including generation, transmission, distribution and marketing of energy, thus strengthening technical cooperation between Bolivia and Paraguay and sustainable development in the energy sector in the region.
Bolivia, within the framework of its energy policy, is actively promoting electrical interconnection projects aimed at exporting energy to neighboring countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Peru. This initiative seeks not only to take advantage of the country's energy potential, but also to strengthen regional integration.
