Enel Distribuição São Paulo will invest 50 million reais in energy efficiency projects in its concession area in the state. This value represents an increase of 43% of the amount of resources initially planned, which was 34 million reais. The selection is being made through the Public Call for Projects (CPP 001/2023), an initiative financed with resources from the Energy Efficiency Program (PEE) of the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL).
In a workshop held this Thursday (27), in the capital, the company clarified doubts and presented details of the notice, which makes the process of selecting projects and works to be implemented more transparent and democratic. The program offers Enel's public and private customers the opportunity to present initiatives that promote energy gains, focusing on efficient consumption, improvements to electrical installations and educational actions.
Enel São Paulo's Energy Efficiency Program has existed since 1999 and has already invested around 1 billion reais in 419 projects. This year, of the total amount available to the state, 15 million reais will be allocated to public lighting initiatives; 15 million reais goes to commerce, services and industry; 10 million reais for public authorities and public services; and 10 million reais for projects in the residential and rural categories.
Projects already included in previous public calls
Between 2019 and 2022, Enel carried out projects at four universities in São Paulo through the program, resulting in the replacement of 35,500 lamps with LED models and the installation of four micro solar plants, with an investment of approximately 6.5 million reais. These projects added up to an estimated energy saving of 6,800 MWh/year, equivalent to the annual consumption of 3,300 homes.
The project by the Federal University of ABC (UFABC), which was selected in 2023, includes the modernization of the lighting system on the Santo André and São Bernardo do Campo campuses. Expected to be completed in December 2024, more than 3 million reais is being invested in improvements, which should generate energy savings of 1,039.33 MWh for the university. The initiatives include the replacement of 12,300 common light bulbs with LEDs, the installation of 18 air conditioning units and the implementation of two micro solar plants, with an estimated power of 212.9 KWp (kilowatt-peak).
2,492 photovoltaic panels and four solar trees were also installed, two on each UFABC campus. With a power of 100 Wp (watt-peak), these structures capture sunlight and convert it into electrical energy, being equipped with USB connection ports, which allow the simultaneous charging of up to five mobile devices, such as cell phones and tablets. Each installation also has two 10-watt LED lamps for nighttime lighting.
In the hospital segment, between 2021 and 2022, Enel carried out projects in four institutions in São Paulo, totaling 27,300 light bulbs changed and a solar plant installed, with an investment of approximately 5.4 million reais.
Completed in 2023 and with a total investment of more than 4.7 million reais, the improvements at Hospital das Clínicas, for example, included the modernization of the lighting system, driving systems and the installation of a micro solar plant, with the replacement of more than 38,400 LED fluorescent lamps and the installation of 456 photovoltaic panels, generating estimated savings of 7,042.85 MWh. The projects were approved in the 2018 and 2021 public calls.
"The Public Call for Projects is a fundamental instrument to promote energy efficiency and innovation in our state. It allows us to select and invest in initiatives that have a direct and relevant impact on the population's quality of life, while at the same time contributing for more conscious and sustainable energy consumption. We are committed to making the process increasingly transparent and accessible, ensuring that the best projects are implemented and that the benefits are widely distributed," says Guilherme Lencastre, president of Enel Distribuição São Paulo.
Criteria for selection
Registration for the public call is open until July 19, 2024 and the notice is available for consultation on the CPP website (Link). One of the criteria is that the registered projects cost between 1 million reais and 4 million reais and focus on efficient energy consumption.
The analysis and classification of projects registered in the public call consider the mandatory documentation required, the quality of the initiatives, the development of the proposal and innovation, in addition to the score achieved according to the criteria established and disclosed in the notice. The methodology is defined by ANEEL, through a judging committee, which also analyzes and scores the projects according to the rules of the notice.
