Energy NL Signs MOU with Canada Guyana Chamber of Commerce

Energy NL release
(St. John’s, NL – February 15, 2023) Yesterday in Georgetown, Guyana, Energy NL CEO Charlene Johnson joined Anand Beharry, Chair of the Canada Guyana Chamber of Commerce, to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two organizations. The MOU will help enhance market access for members interested in participating in the energy sectors of both regions.
“As one of the world’s fastest growing economies led by a thriving energy sector, Guyana is an important market for Energy NL members seeking to share their decades of knowledge and experience in the energy sector, specifically the offshore oil and gas sector. With such a dynamic economy, this MOU with the Canada Guyana Chamber of Commerce will also allow energy NL members to understand and participate in opportunities outside of the traditional offshore energy sector and engage in the broader Guyanese economy. Similarly, the MOU will benefit members of the Canada Guyana Chamber of Commerce as they will gain knowledge and access to the evolving Newfoundland and Labrador energy sector and the numerous opportunities it provides.”
- Charlene Johnson, Energy NL CEO
The memorandum of understanding between Energy NL and the Canada Guyana Chamber of Commerce is intended to establish a good faith relationship between both organizations which will lead to the mutual benefit of their memberships. Areas of cooperation include, but may not be limited to: matchmaking opportunities for interested businesses; market intelligence; trade mission and virtual connections support; and other learning opportunities identified by the organizations and their memberships.
“The synergies between the people of Newfoundland and Labrador and Guyana are nothing short of amazing. No matter whom you meet in the industry in Newfoundland and Labrador the one theme that always gets highlighted is the strong similarities between our two peoples. This agreement will serve as the platform to better engage business interests between our members and the wider Guyanese business community and by extension the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.”
- Anand Beharry, Canada Guyana Chamber of Commerce Chair
During the signing ceremony Energy NL CEO Charlene Johnson commented on the potential of a more formalized partnership established by the MOU and how it will benefit members of both organizations as the Guyanese energy sector continues to grow. “Through shared experiences, shared talent, and a shared commitment to succeed, our organizations are coming together to make the most of the challenges and the transformation, and, the opportunities. I look forward to helping Energy NL and our members play a role in Guyana’s success. I look forward to the results which will come from our collaboration and partnership with the Canada Guyana Chamber of Commerce.”
The Canada Guyana Chamber of Commerce promotes and facilitates investment and trade between Guyana and Canada. The memorandum of understanding with the Canada Guyana Chamber of Commerce is in effect until January 2026.
