EOR modernizes its main technological system at the service of Siepac
This EOR release was published using machine translation.
On Friday, August 25, 2023, in El Salvador, the Central American Regional Operating Entity, EOR, signed a contract with the company HITACHI ENERGY USA Inc., a fact that begins the modernization of its main technological infrastructure that will improve services that the EOR provides to the region, through the supply of safe, reliable, economical and sustainable electrical energy for the benefit of the inhabitants of Central America.
Having this state-of-the-art specialized modern system strengthens the capacity for real-time supervision and the operation of the Regional Electric System that the EOR carries out in coordination with the six (6) National Electric System and Market Operators: AMM of Guatemala , UT of El Salvador, CND-ENEE of Honduras, CNDC-ENATREL of Nicaragua, DOCSE-ICE of Costa Rica and CND-ETESA of Panama, contributing to raising the level of prevention, detection and response of the EOR to situations associated with failures in the regional electrical network that may affect the supply of electricity.
Thanks to the support of the Regional Commission for Electrical Interconnection (CRIE), the regulatory entity of the Central American Electricity Market, which, after reviewing the EOR request for the acquisition of this new mission-critical infrastructure, approved the financial resources for the execution of Phase I of the project, which comprises 2 stages, to be executed between 2023 – 2027. (Resolution CRIE-21-2023).
The approved investment for the first phase amounts to 4.3 million United States dollars and includes the supply of software, hardware, engineering and training, among others. The installation and start-up of this specialized system will be carried out in El Salvador, the host country of the EOR, and its implementation will last 18 months.
"The modernization of this state-of-the-art technological infrastructure is based on the need to have adequate tools that allow us to meet both current demands and the challenges in the path of expansion and evolution of the MER," explained the executive director of the EOR, Eng. René González.
The signing of the contract was celebrated by the engineer René González C., executive director of the EOR, and the engineers George Galaz, vice president and general manager, and Francisco Forn, vice president of the Network Control Unit, both representatives of HITACHI ENERGY USA Inc.
SCADA/EMS FUNCTIONALITIES IN THE OPERATION OF THE REGIONAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The SCADA System, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, which translates as Supervisory Control System and Data Acquisition, provides a fundamental capacity to monitor and control the operation of the system in real time, allowing efficient and safe management, that is, that its implementation contributes to minimizing risks and providing a quality service to users. "Therefore, it can be determined that it is important for the Regional Operator to have a modern and up-to-date SCADA system and its requirement is supported by the regional regulation of the Regional Electricity Market", added Eng. González.
