EPM awards US$84mn Porce III contracts

Colombian multi-utility EPM has awarded 11 Colombian firms contracts for preparatory infrastructure work for its US$548mn, 660MW Porce III hydro project in Antioquia department, the company said in a statement. The contracts, valued at 239bn pesos (US$84.1mn), are for the construction of access road infrastructure, aprons for the doors leading to the underground works, and the materials. The preparatory infrastructure project has been split into three parts. Consortium Union Temporal MPP composed of Meyan-Procopal-Pavimentar will build part one. Conciviles-Construcciones El Condor will build part two, and a Conconcreto SA-CSS Constructores-Estyma will build part three. A consortium of Integral-Sedic-Colombiana de Consultores won the bid to supply materials. Work will start in January and is due for completion by December 2005. Once completed, these works will provide access to complete the principal works of the project: the dam, generator house and tunnels. International bidding for these projects will commence at the end of the first quarter 2004. The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is financing the US$548mn Porce III project.
