Ericsson to deliver ADSL2+ to Telebucaramanga

Bnamericas
Swedish equipment firm Ericsson has won a contract to deliver a public ethernet broadband access solution to Colombian fixed line operator Telebucaramanga, Ericsson said in a statement. The Ethernet DSL Access solution chosen means Telebucaramanga is installing the first ADSL2+ network in what it considers northern Latin America, that is Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and the Guyanas. This will enable the operator to provide triple play services of data, voice and video. The contract includes an end-to-end broadband access solution, comprising HomeGateways, IP-DSLAMs, Metro Network and associated management systems and services. "We will be able to offer our customers high-speed broadband internet access simultaneously with data, voice and video services in a cost-efficient and scalable way," said Yamil Bechara, CEO of Telebucaramanga. Ericsson also has installed ADSL2+ networks in Brazil. In an e-mail response to questions the company told BNamericas negotiations were underway with operators in several other Latin American countries to install ADSL2+ networks, and has installed 20,000 basic ADSL connections in the northern Latin American region to date. The supplier would not reveal the investment price required by Telebucaramanga. Ericsson has deployed this IP-DSLAM (DSL Access Multiplexer) solution under more than 60 contracts around the world. It utilizes the latest ADSL2+ technology with Gigabit Ethernet uplinks, Ethernet aggregation switches and BRAS (Broadband Remote Access Server).
