Expansion of Cirion Brazil datacenter on course for December completion
The expansion of Cirion's main datacenter in Brazil will be completed in December, Gabriel del Campo, the company's datacenter VP, confirmed to BNamericas.
“It’s a datacenter that we’ve been developing for a long time,” Del Campo said of the 2MW expansion of the Cotia datacenter in São Paulo. "It’s a large site that today already has a 25MW high voltage substation and we’re continually growing in the different rooms within the property."
The expansion is part of a plan to boost capacity by 6MW at all the Buenos Aires-based company's datacenters this year.
Cirion also began construction of new datacenters in Chile and Peru of 20MW each.
Del Campo said more expansions will be announced in a timely manner. He said a multi-year plan is in the works to expand capacity and build new datacenters.
"We are looking hard at the Latin American markets in which we operate: Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Mexico ... and we’re looking not only at the main cities, but also at secondary ones, those that have a great need for interconnection and traffic," he added.
In particular, the company sees an opportunity to expand into secondary cities in Mexico and Brazil. “Today we have three datacenters [in Brazil]: São Paulo, Rio [de Janeiro], Curitiba… but in addition to expanding or seeking to expand in those regions, were also thinking of other regions. The same in Mexico," Del Campo said.
In Mexico, the company has a single datacenter located in Mexico City.
However, there are still no approved new projects. Del Campo said the company will give more details when the projects are approved.
The new datacenters could be similar to the two currently being built in Chile and Peru.
