Finland’s Valmet expands footprint in Chile

Finnish industry automation firm Valmet is opening a site in Antofagasta, Chile, to support enterprises located mostly in the northern part of the country and in Peru.  

Valmet provides water management solutions and distributed control systems (DCS), among other related services, to the pulp, paper, energy and mining verticals.

The new site adds to a service center the company maintains in Concepción and from where it serves clients in Chile, Peru and Bolivia, according to a press release.

First investments in the new center are still small, at 600,000 euros (US$643,000) and refer mostly to certain machinery and IT communication systems. 

In Antofagasta, the company will provide corrective maintenance of valves, pumps, equipment diagnostics, as well as consultancy services, among others.

Valmet expects to increase service sales by some 10% in the region with the new Chilean facility.

“We expect to continue growing in the delivery of water resources solutions within other relevant players in the mining industry in Chile, Peru and Bolivia, and continue adding alliances and agreements with the main mining operators in the region,” Carl Mikael Stal, technical and operations manager of Valmet for the Andes region, told BNamericas in January.
