First semester consumption grows 5.3%

Electric power consumption in Brazil increased 5.3% to 149,600MWh in the first semester this year, compared to the same period in 2002, business daily Valor Economico reported. In June, consumption totaled 24,500GWh, up 1.2% from the same month in 2002. Residential use, accounting for 25% of the country's consumption, grew the most at 2.7% in June, while industrial consumption, representing 44% of the total, fell 1% in the month from June 2002. The data is from state power holding Eletrobras.
