From the Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation ministry (SICT).

  • Before President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the head of SICT said that 123 work fronts were deployed with more than 700 workers and nearly a thousand pieces of equipment
  • 11,012 potholes were repaired, equivalent to 8,780 tons of asphalt mix and 54,534 square meters
  • After this initial phase, the repaving of more than 600 kilometers of the Federal Highway Network will begin in December, he announced.

The Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, stated that the Bachetón Program, which focuses on the entire Federal Toll-Free Highway Network, has made progress of nearly 2,000 kilometers.

Before President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the head of the SICT explained that the Program started this month and is already present in all states of the country. This work is possible with the deployment of 123 work fronts, more than 700 workers and nearly a thousand teams.

At a press conference at the National Palace, he added that this is the first stage of the patching work. “Repaving will begin in December, covering more than 600 kilometers of the Federal Highway Network,” he said.

Esteva Medina clarified that the type of patching that is carried out “is not just plugging; it is cutting and paving. It is what we call routine maintenance” that lasts on average 2 to 3 years, enough time to undertake repaving in the periodic maintenance stage.

He stressed that the entire road network in the country is being attended to with patching and routine maintenance, but repaving work will also be carried out to reinforce the asphalt surface.

In December, work fronts will begin in all states and will cover more than 600 kilometers, in addition to what is being done with the Secretariat of National Defense, Federal Roads and Bridges (CAPUFE) and other programs. “The Federal Highway Network is being attended to. Next year, the resources have already been assigned to continue with all these programs,” he added.

According to the Bachetón Road Conservation Program, the head of the SICT reported that since its inception to date the following progress has been made: 11,012 potholes addressed, equivalent to 8,780 tons of asphalt mix and 54,534 square meters.

Around 984 work teams are on site, 123 crews in operation and 739 workers. With this, a progress of 1,912 kilometers of the Federal Toll-Free Highway Network has been achieved. The work benefits more than 100 million Mexicans.

For this reason, on the Second stage of the Fourth Transformation, SICT builds, maintains and improves the roads that connect Mexico.

The Federal Toll-Free Highway Network is made up of more than 43 thousand kilometers throughout the country.
