Five companies seeking solar PV generation permits in Mexico
Despite Mexico’s energy regulator CRE showing a tendency to reject more renewable generation permits than in previous years, three companies submitted requests between July and October to start construction of photovoltaic projects.
The projects pending authorization have combined capacity of almost 100MW and are being requested by Nestle México for a 3.6MW solar plant in Veracruz state, Ecoparque Solar Aguascalientes II for a 90MW plant in Aguascalientes state and Trane Technologies Manufactura for a 5.3MW park in Nuevo León state, according to information submitted to the regulator as of October 10.
The Swiss multinational food and beverages group’s project is aimed at supplying its Veracruz plant.
The Aguascalientes II project comprises a photovoltaic park with 315,840 polycrystalline modules of 380Wp, mounted on a single axis tracker in the municipalities of Aguascalientes and Encarnación Díaz. The initiative will supply the national SEN grid.
BNamericas obtained the details through freedom of information requests after reporting on September 13 that at least 11 Mexican non-conventional renewable projects with combined capacity of nearly 1.5GW were seeking a generation permit from CRE as of July 10.
The regulator also has to decide whether to award permits for solar projects led by GCC Solar Samalayuca in Chihuahua (22MW) and Minera Media Luna in Guerrero (8.4MW), as well as a 320MW wind farm in Baja California state led by Wind Pro.
The Chihuahua project has been awaiting authorization since 2021 and the Baja California wind farm since 2022, while the Guerrero project request was submitted this year.
