Frontera unveils plans for 24-well Colombia drilling campaign

Frontera Energy has submitted an environmental impact study for a new exploration campaign in Colombia's Llanos Orientales basin, according to documents seen by BNamericas.

The LLA-99 project envisages the drilling of 24 exploratory wells in eight areas within the block, located in the Puerto Gaitán area of Meta department, around 450km east of capital Bogotá. 

The wells, two of which will be injectors, will have an approximate depth of 5,200ft while each area will span up to 4ha. 

Proposed investment in the project is 25 billion pesos (US$6.25 million).

Frontera was awarded block LLA-99 following a competitive bidding process held by hydrocarbons regulator ANH in 2019.

In August 2023, the Canadian company completed the acquisition of 163km2 of 3D seismic data for the block. 

Frontera has interests in 34 exploration and production blocks in Colombia, Ecuador and Guyana, in addition to pipeline and port facilities.
