The Ministry of Mines and Energy is pleased to share two pieces of news of great relevance for the country's energy sector that strengthen confidence in stability and energy supply:

1- Successful Preventive Maintenance of the SPEC LNG Terminal in Cartagena
We are pleased to announce that the preventive maintenance of the SPEC LNG regasification plant, carried out between October 31 and November 4, 2024, was successfully concluded without a second of rationing. This process, carried out annually, is essential to guarantee the stability and reliability of the natural gas supply, which is essential for the safe operation of thermal plants in the Caribbean region. This maintenance not only ensures the correct operation of the infrastructure but also reinforces the safe operation of the electricity sector for the year 2025.

The plant has a regasification capacity of 400 million cubic feet per day (MPCD) of natural gas, equivalent to supporting nearly 2,000 megawatts of electricity generation, which corresponds to 60% of the gas thermal capacity in Colombia.

2- Guaranteed gas supply by 2025

The recent report from the Colombian Mercantile Exchange confirms a significant increase in the amount of natural gas available for use in the country during 2025. This news is a positive step towards consolidating energy security, allowing for meeting growing demand and supporting the diversification of supply sources. In addition, work is underway to make the sale of imported gas viable, which will further diversify supply options and contribute to the stability of the energy market.

This news reflects the Ministry of Mines and Energy's commitment to responsible planning and continuous improvement in the management of the country's energy resources. We will continue working to ensure a reliable and sustainable supply of energy for all Colombians.
