The negotiations on development cooperation between Ecuador and Germany that took place on October 12 and 13 in Quito coincided with the 60th anniversary of cooperation relations and culminated in a record allocation by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany .
The new contribution to the Ecuadorian Government for the execution of projects supported by German technical and financial cooperation reached a total of more than 100 million euros, indicated the head of the German delegation, Franz Marré.
The German ambassador Philipp Schauer and the head of the German delegation, Franz Marré (Head of the Latin America and Caribbean Division at the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development) highlighted the consensus on the joint goals and general principles of bilateral cooperation; among others, promoting inclusive and sustainable economic development to get out of the post-pandemic crisis, reduce social inequalities and protect the bases of life, including environmental conservation and climate protection.
At the meeting, it was agreed to start new projects in the field of sustainable urban mobility and resilient cities, agricultural chains free of deforestation, bioeconomy, social dialogue and human rights, transparency and open government.
In addition, the projects underway to prevent violence against women (PreViMujer) and technical assistance for sustainable intermediate cities (CIS), as well as the project to support communities hosting refugees and migrants on the northern border, will be expanded. (YES Border).
The negotiations culminated in an act to celebrate the 60th anniversary of development cooperation between Germany and Ecuador, in which Foreign Minister Juan Carlos Holguín stressed that diplomatic relations between the two countries have been characterized by a high level of friendship, dialogue, understanding and cooperation at the bilateral and multilateral level, based on common values between their peoples and governments, such as democracy, peace, human rights and the rule of law.
On the other hand, with a view to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, the parties condemned the Russian invasion, reaffirming the central importance of a rules-based international order and the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter as the basis for the regulation of relations between states. In particular, they expressed great concern about the repercussions related to the worsening of the global food crisis.
