Government continues to take action to mitigate the effects of the energy crisis: Central Termogas Machala increases energy production

The following is a machine translation of a release from Celec and Petroecuador

Starting this Monday, September 16, the daily production of natural gas-based energy at the Termogas Machala Power Plant will increase on average from 991 MWh to 1,591 MWh, as part of the actions undertaken by the Government of President Daniel Noboa to reduce the impacts of the drought and the energy crisis facing the country and the region.

To achieve this increase, as of today, the Ecuadorian Hydrocarbons Company (EP PETROECUADOR) stopped receiving natural gas at the Bajo Alto Plant, which used this raw material to produce liquefied natural gas. This input is now being used to meet the loading and generation needs of the Termogas Machala Power Plant.

With this decision, Termogas Machala went from receiving 13.5 million cubic feet of natural gas to 19.5 million cubic feet; that is, an increase of 6 million; which in turn allows for an increase in natural gas-based electricity production of 600 MWh.

This optimization of public resources for the benefit of electricity generation is carried out in a coordinated effort between EP PETROECUADOR and the Electric Corporation of Ecuador (CELEC EP) with its Termogas Machala Business Unit.

The supply of fuel to industries will be guaranteed, and they will be able to purchase products from EP PETROECUADOR or its private suppliers.
