Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energy
With an investment of more than $us 66 million, the Government, through Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB), is advancing in the industrialization of hydrocarbons with the construction of the Biodiesel Plant II "Héroes de Senkata", a fundamental infrastructure that will contribute to the country's energy security.
Located in the Senkata region, in the municipality of El Alto, the plant will have a production capacity of 1,500 barrels of biodiesel per day, which will reduce dependence on diesel imports and promote the use of biofuels.
The production of biodiesel at this plant will use 98% vegetable oils and 2% used cooking oil as raw material, thus promoting the circular economy and contributing to reducing environmental impact.
With this type of initiative, Bolivia reaffirms its commitment to the energy transition and the diversification of its fuel matrix with more sustainable sources.
Currently, the Biodiesel Plant II is in the final phase of its execution. This project is part of the energy transition policy and reduction of dependence on fuel imports.
In this regard, Supreme Decree 5135, in force since March 13, 2024, establishes the progressive substitution of inputs, additives and imported diesel oil, determining the percentages of mixing biodiesel and anhydrous ethanol with base fossil fuels for its commercialization.
In March of last year, YPFB started up Biodiesel Plant I, at the Palmasola plant in Santa Cruz, which, after passing the testing stages and dynamic verifications to ensure proper performance, is now producing biodiesel. In this way, the national government is promoting the use of renewable energy.
