- In an evaluation meeting headed by President López Obrador , the head of SICT said that there are 10 rural roads, 3 labor roads and 2 highways with an investment of 17,200 million pesos and 559 km.
- An investment amount of 27 billion pesos was allocated and the goal is 639 km.
- Notable highways include the Tepic-Compostela, Compostela-Las Varas and Las Varas-Puerto Vallarta highways, as well as the Tepic International Airport.
- In addition to promoting social and economic development, the project also included a commitment to conserving biodiversity.
To overcome the backlog of road infrastructure in Nayarit that prevents it from adequately connecting its 20 municipalities, the Government of Mexico has a portfolio of projects that includes 20 priority works with an investment of 27 billion pesos and a goal of 639 kilometers, said the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation ( SICT ), Jorge Nuño Lara .
In a meeting with members of the Cabinet headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, along with the president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, on Priority and Infrastructure Projects in Nayarit, the head of SICT highlighted the efforts of the Government of Mexico to significantly reduce this delay that affected the inhabitants of the region.
He explained that, from the portfolio of 20 infrastructure projects, 15 have been completed: 10 rural roads, 3 labor roads and 2 highways, with an investment of 17.2 billion pesos and a goal of 559 km.
As for highways, he highlighted the Compostela-Las Varas and Las Varas-Bucerías sections, for the benefit of more than 700 thousand inhabitants, requested since previous administrations but which are now commitments that have become reality.
This highway plan, he added, is made up of three highways: Tepic-Compostela , Compostela-Las Varas and Las Varas-Puerto Vallarta , which complete the Guadalajara-Vallarta axis. The high-specification highway system has a length of 212 km, of which 151 km are in operation.
The Tepic-Compostela and the Bucerías-Puerto Vallarta stretch will be completed this year. He emphasized the reduction in travel times on these roads, since previously traveling from Guadalajara to Puerto Vallarta required 5 hours.
Currently, the trip can be done in just 2 and a half hours, and once the other two highways are available, access to the international airports of Tepic and Puerto Vallarta will be faster, in just 1 hour and 25 minutes.
These works, Nuño Lara stressed, promote the social and economic development of the region and alleviate congestion on Federal Highway 200 by separating long- and short-haul traffic, especially for users coming from Guadalajara and Tepic.
The Guadalajara-Vallarta axis is committed to preserving biodiversity, as it has hydraulic works and tunnels adapted as wildlife passages that provide continuity to the biological corridor adjacent to the project.
In the rural roads sector, works have been delivered that integrate communities with interstate axes, such as Ruiz-Zacatecas and Tepic-Aguascalientes, and the modernization of the Presa La Yesca, Tepic-Guadalupe Ocotán and Ramal a Huajimic highways; these together allow 100 percent of the municipal capitals of the state of Nayarit to have paved access.
Another project is the Puente el Ochenta, which connects Ruiz with Rosamorada. In addition to the Access to Boca de Chila, or with a high economic and tourist impact that has already been completed.
Nuño Lara highlighted the labor roads that have already been delivered in the municipalities of Huajicori, Acaponeta and Del Nayar, which have provided connectivity to the communities, generating job opportunities and boosting social well-being in the region.
The head of SICT said that in compliance with instructions from President López Obrador, the Tepic International Airport is being built and modernized with an investment of 4,132 million pesos.
This project will improve connectivity with national destinations, will position itself as an international traffic airport and will contribute, along with the highways, to the growth of tourism and the development of the region's economy.
The Tepic airport will have the capacity to receive 4 million passengers per year and will have state-of-the-art technology to guarantee service and safety levels with international standards. Currently, the participation of 19 national and international airlines to receive 14 new routes is being negotiated.
In the first quarter of this year, there has already been a 30 percent increase in the volume of passengers and operations, which shows that things are moving in the right direction. He stressed that this is a project with an innovative model of joint investment with a private company, in which the Mexican State maintains the management of the airport.
He stressed that the first stage was completed last April, putting into operation 3,100 meters of runway, an annex building, waiting rooms and baggage claim, as well as a new control tower and vehicle access.
The construction of a new passenger terminal of 17,000 square meters is also underway to handle 1.5 million passengers per year in the short term, as well as the expansion of the commercial platform to include 5 contact points.
Without a doubt, this airport is a bridge to a more prosperous future for the State of Nayarit. With these works in Nayarit we lay the foundations for the consolidation of the second floor of the Fourth Transformation, said the head of SICT.
