The Minister of Energy and Mines and president of the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Electrification (INDE) Víctor Ventura, accompanied by the Secretary of Planning and Programming of the Presidency Carlos Mendoza Alvarado, representative on that Council, announced the complaints filed due to identified anomalies in the INDE after the special audits carried out in the institution.

According to analysis of consulting and bidding services contracting events, irregularities were detected in project processes contracted between 2020 and 2023, the general amount of which amounts to Q 406,789,806.00.

Which led to filing complaints with the Public Ministry (MP), as the entity in charge of criminal prosecution to carry out the investigation of the facts and determine the responsibility of the people and contractors possibly involved.

Ventura expressed that "the Ministry of Energy and Mines, as the governing body of energy development, carries out projects that contribute to achieving greater investments for the development of the country." He added that "the complaints presented to the MP reaffirm our commitment to the model of transparency and efficiency in the great crusade against corruption, promoted by the government of President Bernardo Arévalo."

The representative of the portfolio pointed out that “the fight against corruption requires strengthening institutions and guaranteeing administrative processes in accordance with what is established by legal norms, we are giving citizens certainty that each action taken adds efforts for the well-being of the population. ”.

The National Commission against Corruption guided the position in the fight against corruption of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the Ministry of Economy and Segeplan in their capacity as representatives of the Executive Body.

The results of the audit highlight possible falsification of crimes due to actions in the documentation supporting experience, delivery and installation of equipment other than those contracted, as well as projects with advance payments and without any progress in their execution.

It is timely to emphasize to the Guatemalan population that, in addition to detecting corruption and reporting it, actions are taken to combat these practices, in compliance with the laws; In addition, we will continue carrying out special audits and strengthening competition standards for internal control and regaining the trust of citizens.
