Govt. seeks free trade with Singapore

The first round of the free trade negotions between Panama and Singapore closed today, according to local newspaper La Prensa. The two teams of negotiators discussed government purchases, electronic commerce and telecoms amongst other items. No date has been set for the next round of talks. A free trade agreement signed four months ago between Panama and Taiwan has shown strong results for both countries. Exports from Taiwan to Panama reached US$80mn, an increase of 164%, and exports in the other direction hit US$9.7mn, a 608% increase. Main Taiwanese exports to Panama include blank compact discs and laptop computers.
