Govt. seeks to decentralize financial system

Bnamericas
The Peruvian government, through development bank Cofide, is analyzing methods to strengthen non-bank micro credit institutions in Peru's regions to decentralize the financial system, local financial daily Gestión reported. Cofide intends to help strengthen rural municipal credit unions as well as savings and loan cooperatives. By boosting micro credit among smaller, regional players, Cofide hopes to increase access for rural farmers and other non-banked individuals to credit. Some of the non-bank lenders will need capital increases, while others will not, according to Cofide president Daniel Schydlowsky.
