Govt. signs mining, energy agreements with S.Africa

The respective governments of Cuba and South Africa signed agreements Friday that pave the way for South African mining and energy firms to invest in Cuba, Reuters reported. South Africa's state oil company PetroSA is already in talks with Cuba officials regarding offshore oil exploration, Cuba's economic co-operation and investment minister Martha Lomas said in Pretoria, adding that mining companies BHP Billiton and ARMgold are also interested in Cuban opportunities. Other investment opportunities include skills transfer in mining research, geology, and the exchange of information on overall energy policy and strategies and technology, Reuters reported.
