Grand Bahama Power's (GBPC) 52MW diesel-fired project is due to begin operations in the third quarter of next year, Chris Huskilson, CEO of parent Emera (TSX: EMA), said in a presentation. Emera holds a 50% direct and 30.4% indirect interest in GBPC, which serves the island's 45,000 residents and boasts installed capacity of 138MW. Elsewhere in the Caribbean, the company also holds 80.2% investment in Light & Power Holdings (LPH) and its wholly-owned subsidiary Barbados Light & Power (BLPC); and 19.1% in St. Lucia Electricity Services. Huskilson said BLPC is implementing a clean energy strategy as Barbados works to introduce renewable and energy efficiency into legislation early next year. Emera's Caribbean utility operations business unit plans to invest some Cdn$164mn (US$162mn) this year, including Cdn$92.6mn to acquire LPH. The company's third quarter MD&A is available here
