Green hydrogen build-out advancing in Trinidad
Decarbonization efforts by Trinidad and Tobago’s government will receive a boost in the near term with development of the country’s green hydrogen potential.
IDB has issued a call for expressions of interest to structure a plan for green hydrogen demonstration projects.
Participants must have experience in the transformation of green hydrogen into green ammonia and/or methanol for export; pricing, markets and trade; knowledge of local petrochemical stakeholders; and public-private partnerships.
The work will support a prefeasibility study which is near completion and has identified opportunities for the use of wind and solar energy, and repurposing fossil fuel infrastructure, among others.

Documents for the six-month consultancy contract must be submitted by September 9, according to the procurement notice.
The work falls under technical cooperation recently approved by IDB to help the Caribbean nation transition to a low carbon economy.
The regional development bank highlights that the government has put a price tag of US$2bn to achieve its nationally determined contributions.
Recently, the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago and NewGen Energy inked an agreement to advance the latter’s hydrogen production project.
Last year, Kenesjay Green selected io consulting to perform preliminary FEED services for the NewGen facility.
