PRESS RELEASE from Grenergy
October 21, 2024
Madrid, October 21, 2024.- Grenergy has been recognized as one of the fifteen most sustainable companies in the world within the Utilities sector by the MSCI ESG 2024 index from Morgan Stanley Capital International ( MSCI ). This is the third consecutive year that the prestigious index has awarded the company the highest rating, highlighting the company's strong commitment to sustainability.
MSCI positively highlights the significant improvement Grenergy has made in terms of reducing CO2 emissions, thanks to its solid practices and ambitious objectives in this area. Through its Net Zero strategy, Grenergy has committed to being carbon neutral by 2040, thus being ten years ahead of European and national commitments such as the Green Deal and the PNIEC.
The report also highlights Grenergy's leadership in the renewable energy sector as one of its main strengths. This position has been reinforced by the recent expansion of Oasis de Atacama in Chile, the largest battery project in the world. The acquisition of 1 GW of solar capacity from Repsol and Ibereólica has allowed Grenergy to consolidate this 11 GWh storage and 2 GW solar project, reinforcing its leadership in the energy transition.
The company is also recognized by MSCI for its strong governance practices, having strengthened its corporate structure by splitting the roles of executive chairman and CEO, as well as by forming a majority independent Board of Directors.
“Receiving the highest rating in the MSCI ESG rating for the third consecutive year shows that we are on the right path to consolidate our position as leaders in the energy transition,” highlights Rocío Fernández, Grenergy’s sustainability director.
Other ESG recognitions
This recognition adds to those already obtained in the last twelve months in ESG matters. Grenergy is part of the FTSE4Good and, in addition, has been named as one of the 250 most sustainable companies in the world by Sustainalytics.
Grenergy has also positioned itself in the 'top 15%' of the companies in the "Electrical Utilities" sector with the best score in the Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) prepared by S&P Global, which determines the composition of the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index.
