Costa Rica has had a successful year. This year the economy is expected to increase by 5%. In fuel consumption alone, the country has grown by 10.4%.

The use of fuels in the country is associated with kitchens in homes, sodas and restaurants, with the movement of thousands of people daily on our roads and even with the production of electricity in the country.

In that sense, the greater the production, transportation of goods and services and the need for mobility in the country, the greater the fuel consumption. This behavior is synonymous with greater dynamism in the Costa Rican economy.

From January to November 2022, 3,121 million liters of fuel were sold, while in the same period this year 3,445 million liters have been sold. Those 323,857 extra liters mean a 10.4% growth in fuel demand.

On the one hand, diesel demand grew 8.6%, mainly due to the increase in consumption of that fuel for electricity generation. Meanwhile, gas shows a growth of 8.3% in that period and gasoline has shown a growth of 6.8%.

“Greater fuel consumption in the country is a reflection that there is greater dynamism in our economy. "People need more fuel to travel by bus or private vehicles, there is a greater need to consume gas in homes, commerce and industry and there has also been a greater consumption of aviation fuel due to the increase in tourism in Costa Rica," Juan explained. Manuel Quesada, president of Recope.

Quesada highlighted that “it must be recognized that in the midst of this enormous growth in fuel demand, Recope has proven to have the ability to always guarantee the supply of all fuels in the country. We even expect a greater demand for super gasoline, diesel and gas in this month of December and we have already taken all necessary precautions to satisfy the needs of Costa Ricans."
