GTD strengthening datacenter network with new facility in Peru

Chile’s GTD plans to invest US$50mn to build its second datacenter in Peru.
The new tier III datacenter will have more than 6,000m2 of floor space and 2,000m2 of white space, with the capacity to accommodate more than 900 racks, according to a press release.
It will be in Lima department, 30km from the datacenter the company has in the capital’s Surco district.
That first GTD datacenter in Peru opened in 2018, and has 202m2 of white space and 1,161m2 of floor space. It also has tier III design and construction certification.
The new datacenter will be the second largest of Grupo GTD, after one in Chilean capital Santiago.
In addition to supporting the corporate sector, GTD Perú looks to offer solutions for the wholesale market, where companies demand large infrastructure.
This is the second major investment announced by GTD outside Chile in recent months.
At the end of last year, the company announced an investment of US$20mn for the installation of a datacenter in Barranquilla, Colombia, GTD's second in the country.
GTD already has 531m2 of white space tier III datacenter in Medellín, opened in early 2016.
The choice of Barranquilla is due to its international connectivity, as it is a landing point for four underwater cables.
In addition, the Barranquilla government is working on a strategy to attract datacenter investment in the city.
Other advantages of Barranquilla as a site for datacenters is the potential for solar and wind energy, in addition to its proximity to the Magdalena River, which would facilitate the implementation of cooling systems.
The new Colombian datacenter will have 6,200m2 of floor space and a network deployment of more than 500km in the city.
GTD DATACENTER NETWORK

Meanwhile, Lídice 1, opened in 2010 with 668m2 of white space and 1,516m2 of floor space, has a level comparable to tier III.
The fourth tier III datacenter in Chile is in southern city Puerto Montt and has more than 2,300m2 of floor space.
