Guarulhos airport to undergo US$40mn improvement works

Guarulhos international airport in São Paulo state will receive an investment of 200mn reais (US$40mn) to improve facilities.
Among the planned improvements at what is Brazil’s busiest airport are the expansion of the boarding and security area, the renovation of bathrooms, the modernization of the public address system and the boarding pass reading system, and construction of a new plaza for the flow of passengers, according to the ports and airports ministry.
The airport is operated by concessionaire GRU Airport, formed by Invepar and ACSA with a joint 51% stake and state-run Infraero with 49%.
Currently, more than 90% of airports in Brazil are controlled by private sector companies through concessions.
According to federal government estimates announced in the PAC growth program last year, the country's airports are due to see investments of 7.2bn reais in 2023-26.
