Guatemala awards power transmission works

Guatemala’s state power company Inde has selected local firm Tecnisol to build electricity dispatch infrastructure.

The 36-month contract covers construction of the Melchor de Mencos substation, expansion of the Ixpanpajul substation and construction of the 90km Ixpanpajul-Melchor de Mencos line.

Tecnisol won with an offer of 221mn quetzales (US$28mn).

The other participant in the call, which was issued in July, was Constructora JMG with a bid of 227mn quetzales.

The planned works are part of the energy and mines ministry’s 2022-52 power transport expansion plan.

The award comes amid maximum monthly demand records for most of 2022, with peaks of 1,923MW in February and April.

Power distributors Deorsa and Deocsa, known collectively as Energuate, and Eegsa have a tender underway to supply energy and capacity in the long term.
