Guatemala fine-tuning tender to upgrade La Aurora airport

The Guatemalan government is currently working to fine-tune the bases for a tender to carry out modernization and expansion works at the capital's La Aurora international airport under a PPP contract, according to deputy minister for investment and competition, Francisca Cárdenas.

This would be the second project to be carried out under the PPP format, after a stretch of the Escuintla-Puerto Quetzal highway was awarded to the consortium Convia earlier this year.

In January, officials at PPP promotion agency Anadie told BNamericas that the studies for this US$120mn airport upgrade project had already been completed and it only remained to carry out the pre-qualification of potential investors, which would be carried out during the second half of 2022.

Cárdenas said that a PPP contract is a good way to bring foreign direct investment (FDI)into the country and should help Guatemala reach its target of US$1.5bn in FDI and increase that figure significantly in the future.
