Guatemala raises US$125mn from 700MHz frequencies

In the second spectrum auction held this year, América Móvil and Millicom subsidiaries Claro and Tigo offered a total of 1.01bn quetzales (US$124.8mn) to acquire spectrum in Guatemala's 700MHz band.

In an auction that had four rounds, Claro was awarded two blocks of 20MHz each for a total of 335 million quetzales for each of the blocks. Tigo, meanwhile, was left with a 20MHz block for a total of 335.5mn quetzales.

In the June auction, Tigo acquired eight of the 10 blocks proposed by the regulator SIT in the 2.5-2.6GHz band, for which it bid 252mn quetzales.

Claro, for its part, only acquired two blocks of 25MHz each, for which it will pay 131mn quetzales.
