Costa Rica to spend US$77.5mn on wind farm expansion
Costa Rica’s state power company ICE will invest US$77.5mn to expand the Tejona wind farm to 42MW from 13.2MW.
The plant in Tilarán, Guanacaste province, has been in operation since 2002, and ICE expects work to begin in 2025 with the new capacity due online the following year.

Guatemala’s power regulator CNEE approved reference terms for an energy supply call planned by electricity distributor EEGSA.
EEGSA will use the reference terms to draft bidding rules to procure power from May 1 this year to April 30, 2025, at a minimum.

Panama’s state power transmission company Etesa awarded Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios a US$12.4mn, 690-day contract for the supply, assembly, commissioning, and civil works of the 115kV Cáceres substation.
Cobra was the sole bidder in the tender which had a reference price of US$12.6mn.

Nicaragua’s energy and mines ministry recently held an informative meeting with companies to present a planned drilling program for geothermal project Cosigüina.
The IDB-financed work entails drilling three commercial diameter wells to a depth of 2,500m.
Costa Rica’s ICE and consultancy Geokeri are providing technical support, the ministry reported.
The ministry previously awarded Geoinn Geospatial Innovations a contract to carry out topography work in the Cosigüina volcano area.
