Guatemala solar project secures grid connection nod

Guatemala’s power regulator CNEE authorized the connection of a solar project to the national grid.

The approval is for developer Solar El Progreso’s Santo Tomás park in Jalpatagua, Jutiapa department, and associated transmission line and substation which will link the plant to the grid at the Moyuta substation.

“Based on the electrical studies presented and environmental documentation, the maximum power that is authorized to be injected at the point of connection to the national interconnected system is 100MW,” the watchdog said in a resolution.

The connection authorization for Santo Tomás, which will boast 255,556 panels of 450Wp each, expires September 30, 2024.

If the company fails to bring the project online by the deadline, a new connection request must be submitted.
