Guayaquil water rehabilitation works wrap-up Dec.

Bnamericas
Works that fall under Ecuadorian city Guayaquil water utility Ecapag's drinking water service rehabilitation project will wrap-up by year-end, Ecapag said in a statement. Company Coandes Etinar is carrying out the works that include pumping stations, elevated tanks and piping, which concessionaire Interagua will take over once they are finished. The Inter-American Development Bank is helping finance the works from a US$40mn loan approved in 1997. Ecapag awarded Interagua a 30-year concession to operate and administer drinking water and sewerage services in January 2001. US engineering and construction company Bechtel and Italian power company Edison are parent companies of International Water, which controls Interagua. The UK's public services company United Utilities is an International Water partner. Guayaquil, capital of Guayas province, has some 2.1 million residents and is Ecuador's largest city and port.
