Guyana allocates US$12mn for water sector
Guyana's government allocated G$2.5bn (US$12mn) from the national budget to the water sector, compared to G$2.4bn it spent in 2013, according to government news agency GINA.
The funds will go towards expanding water coverage in the country, with special emphasis being placed on "the replacement of electro-mechanical equipment and infrastructure, continued construction of new water treatment facilities and the extension of the network and metering," according to the release.
In addition, two water treatment plants in Wisroc and Amelia's Ward are scheduled to be completed, benefiting more than 30,000 residents in Region Ten.
The budget will also finance the drilling, construction and completion of wells in several villages and the upgrade of service connections.
