Guyana aviation industry taking flight as oil activity intensifies

The development of Guyana’s oil and gas sector and that of neighboring Suriname as well as market synergies with Trinidad & Tobago is leading Guyanese businesses to expand service offerings to cover growing demand across all industries.
Information from Guyana’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows that two small and medium size aviation firms have filed environmental authorization applications.
JAGS Aviation, a member of the BK Group of Companies, looks to build a new terminal at the Eugene F. Correia international airport (Ogle, pictured) which is near the capital Georgetown and handles small business jets and regional turboprop planes.
Completion of the US$25mn, 1.46-acre facility is penciled in for 2022.
For its part, Trans Guyana Airways, a member of The Correia Group of Companies that also operates at Ogle, filed an application for airfield operations with the objective of increasing market exposure in the coming years.
The EPA has determined that the projects will not significantly impact the environment and therefore do not require environmental impact assessments but appeals may be filed.
