Guyana energy sector receives budget boost

Guyana lawmakers approved a budget injection of GYD$61bn (US$292mn) for development projects that includes GYD$5bn for the energy sector.
The additional funds are for this year and will benefit the power dispatch component of the gas to energy project, the public information department reported.
In recent days, the government signed an EPC contract with Kalpataru Projects International for the transmission lines and substations.
The overall project comprises piping to transport natural gas from the Stabroek block to an onshore natural gas liquids plant and power plant.
The GYD$5bn also will support Linden Electricity and Lethem Power.
The government has been pushing for supplementary financing for the two utilities to offset higher prices because of increased fuel costs.
