Guyana issues gas to power project call

Guyana’s Ministry of Natural Resources has issued a request for expressions of interest (EOIs) to advance a natural gas to power project.
The call covers the development of industry and gas-related investments at the 14,000 acre-plus Wales development zone, of which around 1,300 acres will be set aside for the planned infrastructure.
The government and ExxonMobil (EEPGL) selected Wales as the termination point for the 12-inch, 225km pipeline that will transport gas from the Liza field at offshore block Stabroek.
The request for EOIs is for the design or use of a 4,000b/d natural gas liquids (NGLs) plant, which includes a liquid petroleum gas (LPG) facility; the design, construction and financing of a gas-fired plant (initial 150MW, another 150MW in a second phase) to supply Guyana Power & Light; and industries that in an initial phase would consume up to 10Mf3/d (million cubic feet), with a preference for projects that use 1-5Mf3/d.
The government expects to receive a guaranteed minimum of 50Mf3/d by 2024 from the pipeline, which will have capacity of 130Mf3/d.
EOIs must be received by August 29, according to the ministry notice.
This month, EEPGL began public consultations for the project after submitting the environmental authorization request in June.
EXPLORATION
For its part, Frontera Energy reported that the Kawa-1 exploration well at Guyana offshore block Corentyne is due to spud next month and reach total depth in around 85 days.
“The primary target for the Kawa-1 well is a Santonian age, stratigraphic trap, interpreted to be analogous to the discoveries immediately to the east on block 58 in Suriname,” the company said in an update.
Frontera-controlled CGX Energy subsidiary CGX Resources operates the acreage.
