Guyana issues hydro power transmission call

The Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) has launched bidding to connect two small-scale hydroelectric plants to a local grid.

The project entails building a 17km, 13.8kV transmission line and communication infrastructure to link the 1.5MW Kumu and 0.7MW Moco Moco plants to Lethem Power’s system.

Offers for the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning contract are due by January 11, according to the procurement notice, available here and in the Documents box in the top right corner.

The work falls under a hinterland electrification program financed in part by the Islamic Development Bank.

Sri Lankan company Vidullanka holds a 24-month, US$12.9mn EPC contract for the plants awarded at the end of last year.

Guyana also has bidding underway for the 165MW Amaila Falls hydro project.
