Guyana power grid works package draws sole bidder
Only one group is vying for a contract offered by Guyana Power and Light (GPL) to shore up transmission infrastructure.
Kalpataru Projects International from India is the sole bidder to provide engineering, procurement, construction and financial services for an underground river crossing transmission line, procurement information shows.
The work includes the expansion of substations in Vreed-en-Hoop and Kingston. The tender was launched a little over a month ago.
Kalpataru already is supplying transformers to GPL and recently picked up a contract for the transmission component of a 10MW geothermal project in Dominica.

GPL forecasts that its customers will hit 265,014 in 2028, up by 40,012 from 2023.
The power utility also has calls underway for projects under the GUYSOL utility-scale solar capacity and associated battery energy storage program; to supply, install and commission a MAN engine; and to provide 60MW of net power generation baseload capacity.
