Guyana roundup: Gas to energy project loan, flagship hydro, procurement

The board of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) is due to review a loan request for Guyana’s natural gas to energy project in the coming weeks.

The South American country’s Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo provided the update during a press conference, where he said that if the board approves the funds, the US congress has 35 days to analyze the financing package, after which it would return to EXIM for a final review.

The government has requested funds for the 300MW power plant and natural gas liquids facility.

EXIM recently released environmental reports for the project.

Flagship hydro

Jagdeo also commented on the 165MW Amaila Falls hydro project, stating that “it’s high on the agenda and it’s still a financially feasible proposition,” but that advancement has faltered recently due to timing and policy issues.

He added that options include advancing with the most recent process to select a developer or launching a new call.

Procurement

ExxonMobil Guyana issued a request for information to provide consultancy services for environmental, regulatory and socioeconomic management.

And Halliburton submitted an offer of US$1.89mn to provide the Ministry of Natural Resources with exploration and production data management services, information from the National Procurement and Tender Administration shows.
