Guyana's e-government project behind schedule

Bnamericas

The completion of Guyana's e-governance project, expected by September 2013, has been further postponed until sometime in 2014, according to local source Stabroek News.

The project was initially expected to be completed in June 2013, but issues related to soil testing caused the extension to September.

Guyana's e-governance project includes the construction of cell towers to facilitate the installation of an LTE network, and the roll out of a fiber optic cable in capital city Georgetown, which will be used to connect government ministries, as well as the University of Guyana and some coastal locations.

The entire cost of the project is US$32mn, encompassing the installation of a fiber backhaul network, the creation of a datacenter for the development of e-government applications, and the installation of LTE networks in all major population centers.
