H2 Peru and the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Lima announce collaboration for the Proposed Regulation of the Law for the Promotion of Green Hydrogen
The following is a machine translation of a H2 Peru release
Last May, H2 Peru, the Peruvian Hydrogen Association, in collaboration with the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Lima, launched a call for the development of the Proposed Regulation of the Law for the Promotion of Green Hydrogen. This joint effort aims to provide support to the country's legislative and regulatory institutions in the development of the regulatory instrument, proposing a model Regulation in accordance with international good practices in the renewable and low-emission hydrogen sector.
The objective of H2 Peru is to promote the development of a new hydrogen industry, creating spaces for interaction to exchange visions, experiences and needs, and based on international best practices. This will allow identifying opportunities for the creation of an ecosystem conducive to hydrogen, covering regulatory, technical, commercial and capacity development aspects at the national level.
The proposed regulation will seek to ensure the alignment of hydrogen-related activities and projects with the sustainable development and decarbonisation objectives established by the Peruvian government. This project between H2 Peru and the British Embassy aims to provide the Peruvian government with a proposal that reflects international best practices, promotes competitiveness and efficiency in the sector, and contributes to positioning Peru as a relevant player in the transition towards an economy based on clean and renewable energy.
In May of this year, the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile was selected, based on a series of techno-economic criteria, to carry out the preparation of this regulation. The university is working together with H2 Peru and the Embassy of the United Kingdom and it is intended to present a draft regulation around October 2024.
« We are very excited to welcome the tendering of the Proposed Regulations for Peru's Green Hydrogen Promotion Law. This initiative not only marks a fundamental milestone in our country's energy transition, but also positions Peru as a leader in sustainable development and technological innovation in the region. With this proposed regulation to the law, we are laying the foundations for a cleaner, more efficient and prosperous future, taking advantage of the potential of renewable and low-emission hydrogen to transform our energy matrix and reduce carbon emissions .», commented Daniel Cámac, president of H2 Peru, the Peruvian Hydrogen Association.
On the other hand, the Chargé d'Affaires of the British Embassy in Lima, Sandy Scott, mentioned: “We are pleased to work together with H2 Peru on such an important issue as promoting the use of renewable and low-emission hydrogen in Peru. For the United Kingdom, the use of this type of renewable energy is essential to achieve the goal of zero carbon emissions by 2050. We continue to look for initiatives that help Peru adopt international best practices and we are sure that this proposed regulation will be useful in the process of implementing Peru's energy matrix.”
This call and the upcoming regulations to be published represent a significant step towards consolidating Peru as a benchmark in the renewable and low-emission hydrogen ecosystem, promoting a sustainable and prosperous future for all.
