Spanish satellite operator Hispasat's Amazonas 3 satellite has been transferred to the European Space Agency's launch site in Kourou, French Guiana for its planned takeoff on February 7, according to launch organizer Arianespace. The Amazonas 3 will be utilized by Hispasat and its Brazilian subsidiary, Hispamar Satellites. Outfitted with Ku-, C- and Ka-band transponders, the Space Systems/Loral-built spacecraft will be positioned at the 61 deg West orbital slot following its deployment by the Ariane 5 spacecraft. The satellite is part of a plan by Brazil's telecoms regulator Anatel to bring broadband coverage to regions where telecoms infrastructure is incipient.
